Neo Rauch

Neo Rauch is the best painter of the last 200 years, he also is my best friend and mentor. Peggy and I went to a show of his in New York and took these photos of his work. Now that I am a blog fag I have a place to post them. He has a mid career retrospective at both the Museum der bildenden Künste and the Pinakothek der Moderne this spring. I want to save up some money and go to Germany this summer to go to these exhibits and also to go through his garbage and masturbate on his lawn.

Nadia Hebson

I just came across these paintings by chance, i love them! Something about boats in wild waters, make such great paintings. I love how loose they are, something to work towards in my own work.
These are her best pieces but if you want to check out more about her, here you go!

WOLFMAN

Even though it strayed away from the original a little more than i would have liked, it made up for in rich imagery. Really beautiful scenes and the best looking werewolf in a film yet . Didn't quite have the magic of the original and it left me with a bit of an empty feeling that i can't explain, but overall i was very pleased.

RORY DEAN STUDIO VISIT

my pet bird the buzzard derek mainella

two of my best friends professor assessor "Ted Tucker" and the buzzard

The annual Beckerbowl superbowl party was held this year at my best bud Rory Deans aunts house out in Oakville. While I was there I got a chance to see what Rory was working on for our forthcoming show at the Christopher Cutts Gallery in July. As always I was inspired after taking a look at all his paintings seething in subversion and mischief. His New work littered with kkk ghosts, little ugly creepy children in strange cosmic settings with bugs, ghosts, glowing auras and even fraggles are painted in a delicate jewel like way that gives the disconcerting subjects beauty. Rory is my favourite painter (tied with peggy) and I think he is doing his best and most ambitious series he has ever done and I can't wait until July when we hang our work side by side, I think its going to be the best show anyone has seen in years. see more of his work here and here

Shary Boyle

On Thursday Joe and i went to a Shary Boyle talk at the KW/AG as part of the group show Pandora's Box. Nothing ever happens out here so we couldn't miss it. The show as a whole kinda sucked, which was disappointing but expected; however, the talk was quite enjoyable. I've been a long time fan of her work and i was impressed how someone could talk about themselves for over an hour without coming off like a total knob. Even though there was a lot of "art speak" i left with more of an appreciation for her work. And for also having to respond to such questions as "what is the role of an artist today? Is it to act as a Shaman?" and questions about "objectivity" and "subjectivity" from a big dyke Kate Gosselin hairdo art grrrl. So bravo Shary, cause i sure as hell wouldn't be able to do that.
